Energy isolation (Lockout / Tagout) is the primary line of defense preventing unexpected re-energization during machinery maintenance, vessel entry, or pipe line breaking.

The 6 Steps to Zero Energy State 1. **Notification**: Inform affected operators and shift supervisors of the planned isolation. 2. **Shutdown**: Execute normal machine stop sequence. 3. **Isolation**: Open circuit breakers, disconnect main switches, and close line valves. 4. **Lockout / Tagout**: Apply standardized padlocks, lockout clasps, and digital tag logs. 5. **Stored Energy Dissipation**: Vent trapped pressure, drain hazardous liquids, apply mechanical chocks to elevated parts. 6. **Try-Out Test**: Verify zero energy state by attempting local start switch and testing voltage levels.
